Having trouble finding out about benefits? You are not alone. Older adults face major obstacles in gaining access to local, state, and national benefits.

The Lehigh Valley Alliance on Aging, with local support from your United Way and Verizon, has teamed-up with the National Council on Aging to make finding and securing benefits possible for more than 114,000 older adults in the Lehigh Valley.

Through a FREE and CONFIDENTIAL service called BenefitsCheckUp, older adults can now screen themselves for more than 1,000 federal and state benefits in the privacy of their own home through the Internet.

Want to find out what benefits you may be eligible for, where to apply, and what forms and documents are needed to apply? Simply click on the options above to find out more, conduct your own screening, or contact one of the BenefitsCheckUp screening organizations for assistance.

To run your own BenefitsCheckUp screening you will need to have the following information ready:

  • State and ZIP code
  • Date of birth for self and spouse
  • Type of residence
    (house, apartment, or mobile home)
  • Length of time in current residence
  • Veteran status for self and spouse
  • Employment history (specifically, whether or not you or your spouse ever worked for the state, local, county, or federal government or the railroads)
  • Names of prescription medications you are taking (we recommend that you have available the prescription bottles or information about your medications from your health professional)
  • Current income and assets from all sources for self, spouse, and others in the household
  • Estimates of current expenses (such as mortgage/rent, utilities, out-of-pocket medical bills, expenses for caring for someone at home while you work or go to school, etc.)

What are you waiting for? In less than 20 minutes you can find out about the benefits for which you are eligible.
