Blueprint for Action
The United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley (UWGLV) created the Lehigh Valley Alliance on Aging (LVAA/the Alliance) in May 2001. Its vision is that the Lehigh Valley will be a community where older adults can remain in their homes and continue to live full lives with as much choice as possible. The mission is to advance strategies ensuring long-term care and supportive service systems meet the existing and emerging needs of all older adults. The Alliance addressed five priority issues: Communications, Housing Options, Workforce Development, Mobility Options, and Intergenerational Opportunity.
A five-part summer conference series high-lighting best practices for implementation in each priority area was held in 2003. As a result, a "Blueprint for Action" was developed that contains a synopsis of each conference, and identifies opportunities and barriers, action for individuals and organizations, and actions for the Lehigh Valley Alliance on Aging to take in establishing a strategic plan for implementation in the Lehigh Valley.
The bluprint as served as the "springboard"to action by providing critical community feedback upon which the Alliance has framed out and act upon a strategic plan for the future.
